Without a doubt, the pinnacle of the 2001 season for Hank Jr. and the GNC team was their awesome win at the California Speedway.

Hank's crew chief at the time, Billy Nacewicz, decided not to pit the car for fuel, taking a huge chance on running out of gas.

"It was a good call by Billy," Parker said. "It was a big gamble we took, but the way we've been running this year, we knew we had to do something to get things going. (Winning) is a lot better than I ever expected. It's something I've worked for a long time."

It was a great sight when the white #36 Chevy flew across the finish line before anyone. "I was really worried about giving up that lead," Parker said. "I was letting off a lot earlier and getting back in the gas a lot later in the turns, but I wanted to have enough of a lead to hopefully coast in for the win if I ran out of fuel."
